silcone will not take paint-- if your fire wall is going black use the black silcone --will blend in--the trick to remember is that you do not need to glob it on --if you look at the part that you are replaceing you will notice several flat spots and the rest will be edge runs. on flat areas you can be a little sloppy in making sure you get it covered-- on the edge runs -a thin line of silcone will work-- when you tighten the unit down there should be very small amount of silcone squeze out-clean extra off --should come out clean and no paint problems
