You have some good suggestions here. You replaced the filter, so one step down. Has the carb been apart ot sat for any length of time? Does it seem to run relatively smooth other than falling on it's face? The fuel pump could be weak as well. Run a temporary inline fuel pressure gauge and see what it does when it acts up. Compare to how it reads under normal driving. With a little patience, we'll help get you there.
