Getting the shift indicator to match the gear you are in is a matter of length of arm at bottom of shifter and length of arm on trans. I found in my research for my cable set up they have to be the same length. You can check your column application by measureing the sweep of the arm from low to park at the column, then the same on the trans arm. If the arm on the trans is longer than the column you will got be able to get into low and/or park. If it is too short in relation to the column the shifter detents and reading on the indicator will be off (shorter sweep). I do not know if the after market columns have detents like the factory ones or if they rely on the detents in the transmission to keep things in gear. Can't help with the dogs name, kids always named the animals in my family except for one lab that was given to me as a Christmas present.
