235 with a Powerglide you need an engine adapter also. They can be hard to find and sometimes pricey if you do find one. You can do a 230 or 250 and use a Powerglide, 700r4 or most any Chevy automatic with no adapter. If your going auto then you may want to think about taking advantage of the later model OD transmissions.
The real problem with a Powerglide is that the engine has to really wind up in 1st then shifts to drive. That's great for drag racing but a PIA after a while on the street. If you have loud mufflers on the truck it sounds like your racing at every stop light.
