This "rust free cab" issue has plagued us all for decades. We all want rust free metal, we all want to build or own project but the reality is few folks want to pay top dollar and dont realize what it takes to get that rust free material back east! Many folks have tried the west coast to east coast metal shuffle business and most find its not worth their time because the bulk wont pay what its worth or what they have in it. Most folks just resort to using patch panels and spending the same money (time) in the long run. There is still a good bit of expense involved in buying trucks (long beds) out west, shipping them back and parting them out but that does seem to be one of the cheapest ways to go. You do have to watch it though...you will need to go inspect the vehicles from top to bottom because you NEVER get a complete report. I have shipped 2 from the SW and both were called rust free trucks and both had rust. There are also a few trucks that pop up now and again here in the south that have been garaged or well kep with minimal rust but they are few and far between. With all that said, the cheapest way out of this rusty cab issue I have found it to buy a truck someone else had built and gone through all the headaches and then realized the truck he built is actually worth 50% of what he has put in it!
