I would recommend staying conservative with the cam. I would say no more than 224* @.050 and lift .450-.460 max. As for some of the rest, an Edelbrock Performer intake, with a 500 CFM carb should work good. You will want a good ignition. A HEI distributor is a good and popular choice. Did that price of $2K include balancing the rotating assembly? If not I would recommend that if it is within your budget. I agree an OD trans would be a good choice whether it is an auto or manual.
