Your answer lies within, my friend. if your pretty handy then yes you could go to a lumber yard and buy the material, cut it as needed and install it. it would look as good as your abilities.

Getting an aftermarket kit will take most of the labor out of the equation. you take it out of the crate whne you get it, lightly sand it, stain as you like, finish as you like and put it in place, done.

it really depends on what is most important to you, money or time. Good luck and if you do decide to buy the kit, the vendors here will treat you right!
