Re: NV4500 will it fit??
Odog,
That is a great deal if you got a NV4500 and tcase for free! It will bolt up to the 327 just fine but you’ll need to figure out what you want to do for a bellhousing. Either get a Advance Adapter$ housing that you can use a hydraulic or mechanical clutch linkage or find a ’92 – ’95 NV4500 housing with an external hydraulic slave or get a ’96-’06 bell with an internal slave/release bearing assembly.
If I ever do this swap on another vehicle I won’t bother going with a NP205 unless I am pushing big time torque and HP with another 8.1L. With a small block...go with a NP241 and save the money. That is a lot of work to make a 205 fit! If I were you, I would trade the transfercase you have for a driverside front output 32 spline NP241 from behind a TH400 from ’87-’91 V truck or Suburban. Basically, you need a 32 spline driverside output tcase from a straight axle GM truck. 241’s are fine…205’s are better but you will play hell finding one that is a direct bolt up to a NV4500.
Ah, I got my first NV4500 for free as well. After installing it, it was obvious why it was pulled from a truck to begin with. It was a piece of crap and I had to buy a new one in the end anyway. Definitely pull the rear cover and make sure 5th gear isn’t all tore up and loose on the tail shaft.
