This is what I did with my stock width frame rails. I cut out the intermediate crossmember and welded in a tube to house a splined torsion bar (5/8") I had leftover from a customer project. I fabricated the aluminum arms and used end links with spherical rod ends.

This allowed me to drop the rear very low without having to alter my bed, etc. You can use different thickness torsion bars...just use the corresponding housing tube diameter, etc.
