Found some large sockets at Tractor Supply at a good price and took the control arm into the store to fit a socket to it, but here's the deal - the 1 & 3/8" wouldn't fit and the 1 & 7/16" socket was loose. Maybe the replacement parts(made in China) are metric. Anyway, I ended up buying a big crescent wrench for $11 and it worked just fine(did both sides) to take the nuts off and put the new ones on, with the help of a cheaper pipe of course. Thanks very much for the replies.
