+1 on what INDYUKE said on the choke.
The cylinder IS a solenoid that increases the idle a couple of hundred rpms when the AC compressor is turned on so that it doesn't stall the truck by pulling the idle too low. It is adjustable. You still set your idle speed by the screw on the right side of the carb linkage (as you are looking at the front of the carb). The solenoid won't do anything unless you have it hooked up to your AC.
