My truck is a 71 with 402 and TH400 auto with column shift. Currently it will shift freely between N and D L2 L1. With some effort it will go into reverse and absolutely refuses to go into Park. I think it's something in the column as I can't see anything external to the column that is interfering.

Is there a way to get to the part of the column that moves with the shifter by removing the steering wheel? Can you think of anything else to check?
