It is not the fact that the rims are larger in diameter. It is the taller tire and the affect that it has on the RPMS and the power needed to make it move. If you go 20" rims, but the tire is approximately the same diameter,then the RPMS will be the same and the MPG will be the same. I am getting decent mileage with my 265/50/20 tires on my new truck, just because it works well with my gear ratio. Plan your change and align gears and tires effectively.
