Re: my iroc guages done!

I'll have to try this also since I happen to collect instrument clusters. Nothing looks as good to me as factory GM gauges. Hopefully the backlighting will remain uniform..

Sometimes as the Camaro tachs age, they may begin to read higher than normal. Somewhere in the 170K mile mark, the factory tach in my '89 RS started reading maybe 1-2K higher than normal..the higher the RPM the greater the error. It doesn't jump/twitch either. I can finally shift my lil' 305 at 7K now, LOL.

One thing that's really cool is that you can do this to a 6-cylinder truck since there are lots of 6-cylinder Camaro clusters out there. V6 clusters will have an 80 lb oil pressure gauge.

BTW, all '82-'89 Camaro speedometers are mechanical. There are 85mph, 115mph, & 140mph variants. The '82-'84 85mph units have a dual pointer which is very interesting. '82 model clusters will also have an extra odometer digit (I'd love to know why!).

'90-'92 Camaro clusters were completely redesigned & wouldn't apply to this conversion. I can post pics of the various clusters if anyone is interested.

If you wanted to REALLY get creative you could find an early Cavalier or Sunbird cluster with Tach cluster. They are rare but those tachs have 2 holes for gauges in them. You'd have to swap out capacitors to get them to read right for the V8 though.

I saw a truck with a 2nd-gen Firebird Tach/clock & it looked really good...I was amazed because the guy that drove it was kind of a "Red Green" sort of fellow & he did it himself.. I don't know what he used for a fuel gauge though.
