One option....

On the 60-66 columns the shaft is a 3/4 round shaft. We send a DD joint and have the end user grind two flats on the shaft for the DD joint. It is important to take your time to ensure a good fitment, but this provides a better union than running a shear pin.

You could cut your shaft down a couple inches and do this same modification.
