The clip that holds the steel pump body in the aluminum transfer case will wear and break. After that happens it's only a matter of time until the pump will wear a small hole in the transfer case. If you dont notice the fluid loss, its a bad day for the T-case. I know that GM had updated the clip to a free floating design that is suppose to stop this.
