I just finished mine and I left the cab on due to no room to set it off. I took the cab mount bolts out, jacked up the cab (very slowly and carefully with a block protecting the cab. After I had the cab high enough I slid a 2x4 between the cab and frame for support. After that I welded on supports in front and behind the splice area. You are working under alot of weight, never hurts to be safe. I would NEVER do this under just jack stands. Check my thread in my signature for more details.
