I have had a couple brand new oil filters leak at the crimp seam. One was a high dollar filter so it isn't limited to cheapo filters as a problem.
You could also be leaking at the oil pressure sensor boss adjacent to the filter that most people tap for a mechanical oil pressure gauge.
