What would you bump it to? 11:1 like the L78?
I had a L35 in a '72 2wd about a year ago. I bought it for a motor swap but didn't use it. I drove it around a little to see how it ran. That thing was a
horse! I had to run premium and set the timing at 6* and never lug it down to keep it from pinging. As previously stated the compression is at 10.25:1. I tore it down for the swap and saw that the std. bore/crank was in perfect condition. I also saw one of the piston rings come out in 13 pieces! Evidently the PO didn't know what pinging was. I reassembled it, advertised it and sold it for $1500 (apparently the JG stamped on the front of the block made it worth a little bit).
