This antiques store just opened up a week ago. The people who own it are not car or truck people I would guess. They do have a few auto parts - mirrors, hubcaps, a couple dashboards (one out of a Hudson Hornet!), and this tailgate, which the guy asked me what year truck it fit. He said he got it from a guy that had it in his barn, took it off when the truck was new to put on a camper. It looks original to me. It is heavy, I can tell you that. I feel kinda bad, I'm sure he didn't know what he had. Is there a sure way to tell if its original?

THe easiest way to tell if it's original is to look at the welds on the ends and the spot welds in the recessed areas. There are a couple companies making gates stamped with the lettering and they weigh the same but the welds are actually better...
