Why don't you pick up a used 94-96 Caprice or 9C1 police car? They have 260hp LT1's, OD tranny's....they are big...roomy....get 18-22mpg on the highway and you can usually find them cheap.....there are a ton of parts for them....I bought mine for $3000.
