you can get grade 8 carriage bolts but then you have to file the squares. The other option is to buy a real rivet setup. At the end of the day, i think the hex is better because it is functional and easy to grip and tighten as opposed to the prettier looking bolts that often use an allen key or torx. They sure would look nicer though.
