I've had my '68 C/10 stepside w/292 since 1973, and I don't remember there ever being a starter brace except in some illustrations in the Chevy Service Manual. Of course I might have lost it, I was relatively young[and inexperienced] when I bought my truck. Unless you're stump jumping or boonie whomping, you really don't need one.
