A year and a half ago I bought a 71 2 wd. I wanted to do exactly what you described. I too am not a mechanic, but retired and able to do most of my own work. Today it sits in my garage on jack stands as it has since I bought it. Thank you "Murphy". I have had many cars - street rods, classics, etc. I have never met so many dis-honest people as I have since I bought this one. No reflection to anyone on this site. People here are great. I once was so upset with it that I posted it here for sale at a very low price just to get rid of it. After a week with NO responce I deleted the ad. I'm still working on it and determined to drive it before I die. Good luck.
