I'd look into fixing the stock 6. It doesn't sound like you're looking for a street machine and doing a v8 swap will end up being a time/money pit. The stock 6 should be a good runner.
I'd put some custom wheels on it and put lower it (air ride if you have the $). Then, drive it for a while and enjoy it before you worry about paint.
