[1969 GMC]

hey guys, I have been getting a little bit of a problem from the GMC lately. when i go to open the driver door from the outside, the button depresses but doesn't open the door. the inside handle does not work either for this. i found the only way to alleviate this is to push the lock button down (hard to push) and then pull it back up, and then the door will work fine on both sides. it has gotten worse and worse, now i pushed the lock knob down and it bent a little bit, wont pop up, and the door wont open from either side. I am gonna tear into the door tomorrow morning, any advice before hand on what I should do to fix this? tia
