Since you have an old one to play with, play with it. Basics are you pop some keepers off the backside and you can roll the numbers to where you want. The trick is getting the wheels all lined up again straight and getting the keeper(s) put back correctly to keep them straight.
It's not overly difficult to do but some frown upon others trying to teach how. It is a gray area, but as mentioned if your title already says "EXEMPT" or "EXCEEDED MECHANICAL LIMITS", then what's the worry in it? When I'd drop a new bullet in I'd always set the odometer back to all zeros.
