Re: 47 Chevy AutoX Truck

The next phase took place during the Winter of 2011-2012 and included a revamped 350 SBC out of my ’82 Z28 Camaro. The flat tappet cam had a defective lifter and less than 1,000 miles on a fresh rebuild so we put in a used solid roller lifter cam from a circle track car along with the circle track intake and headers from the 305 SBC that was in the truck. Thd new combo made 390 RWHP. The old 305 always ran like a top, even up to 7,000 RPM, but it only had around 300 HP at the flywheel so the difference was noticeable.

The fenders came last, and my Dad did some fab amazing work to make them fit. They completely changed the look, but I was impressed with how they turned out.

Right now, the current project is trying to improve the front-to-rear weight distribution. The fuel tank is being moved to the rear of the bed, and I might experiment with some lead ballast.

The WC T5 is also being replaced because I got greedy and tried to bang 3rd gear at an autocross and sheared off all the gear teeth. The T5 was tough though because after pulling out the metal bits with a magnet and flushing it with diesel it survived a whole day of autocross and a 200 mile trip home minus 3rd gear.
