I have done everything that you mention. Check out my signature block for the mods that I did to my 68 K10. Everything that you have been told is correct. Ditch the closed knuckle front axle. You can get the later steering hardware and disc brakes at the same time if you swap in a later front axle. I put an overdrive automatic and a NP205 transfer case in. I highly recommend the 700R4 trans if you are converting to an automatic anyway. I used the same front driveshaft but did have a new rear one made. If you are going 6" lift you may want to consider a crossover steering setup. Pont, on this board, is the guru when it comes to crossover steering. Good luck and have fun!
