I used some construction adhesive, applied it to the rubber then stuck it to the steel, pulled it off letting it tack up then put it back so it would grab without sliding down the door skin. It makes a big difference how the door sounds when I close it, the tinny, hollow sound is gone and now sounds like a solid thud.
