I found this on another board when I did a search for 65 409's might be useful info
I have an original 65 Impala SS 409/340 4-spd car. The engine block serial number is on the left side of the block right in front of where the cylinder head meets the block. The numbers stamped there on my block are: 24 L106530 T0817 JB. I believe the number following the "T" tells you which block you have out of the 2850 or so made by the Tonawanda plant. "JB" simply represents the car's as-sold configuration, in this case a 65 Impala SS coupe with 409/340, rochester carb, and 4-spd manual. I assume that the other numbers represent when the block was fabricated (day, shift, etc.).
