Re: GMC Fleetside Tailgate (Non-Trim Band Style) - Excellent Condition +20 Pics
I have and its usually dependent in part upon where the depot is, they typically aren't a to-your-door option so you may know better than I where the nearest greyhound site is as far as where you are...
Here's the thing: This is a BIG piece but only moderate in weight. I don't know exactly what it is but off the top of my head I'd assume it to be about 40# by the time packaging is added? Give or take a few pounds?
UPS: Its big so UPS will jack up rates based on their "dimensional weight" formula. Their online pricing system currently quotes it at $81.27 to send, but bills it as if it were 82# just because of its size.
USPS: My local postmaster actually has been working with me lately on getting some oversized parcels in parcel post, just with an oversize upcharge attached. If, and it is *if* the final dimensions as padded and packaged on the tailgate could come in at or below 68" long (5ft 8in) 22" wide and 9" thick he will send it out parcel post for me. Assuming a weight in the 40# range, that could get it to your door for $68.57 via parcel post, again assuming a 78130 zip code from an online search based on your profile city.
Without an exact destination to go off of, assuming San Antonio as a starting point and giving a couple dollars leeway either direction if there was a different station closer to you, Greyhound could wind up in the $71-81 range because they are currently adding a 8% fuel surcharge to all freight shipments as of this past week, this due unfortunately to the high price of diesel these days. Greyhound's competitiveness comes in best for big things like doors that fall outside the dimensional limits offered by usps/ups, or if it is a longer trip like Georgia to Oregon usually.
Without having it wrapped up and packaged yet I'd assume that $70 could get it shipped down to where you are to your door instead of a station you had to spend round-trip gas driving to. As I already have done with someone else who bought door panels, if there was any way to get it done cheaper just refund the difference, or if it ran over I'd eat the additional cost.
Not sure if any of that influences your thinking at all, but if you are interested in it just let me know.
