Two ubolts hold the lower control arm on. Using a Jack to support the lower control arm bar is the easiest way I have found to remove the springs. Besides that I removed the whole assembly as I am putting on 73-87 arm setup so I would have had to remove them at some point anyway. Springs will be replaced with bags.

My reason for question #2 was: why not torch the springs & remove all spring pressure/force?
