There are two little rubber bumpers that give it a little "spring"....also keeps the glovebox door from ratteling. I replaced my dry rotted ones and the door opens easier. There is no spring assembly that helps open it though. The lock kinda acts like a spring to open it. You might check the condition of the rubber bumpers...they are still produced and maybe adjust the latch a little.
