You should be fine as long as fuel level is below sending unit (1/2 is great safe point). Loosen the cap to let off any pressure in the tank itself. If you crack the line at the fuel pump, it will likely just sipon fuel. The line on the tank side(feed) of the pump is the suction side so should be no pressure. There may be an oz or two just from the line but a couple shop rags should take care of that. Good luck.
