Re: 700r4 conversion done! FREE 4sp, driveline etc.

Ill try to do a thread w pics. I installed the motor 2 weekends ago against the 4sp and drove it to break it in. Planned to swap the 700r4 in for quite sometime so I had a pile of parts waiting. I had to cut the trans crossmember out and unbolted the 2nd one. Pulled the linkage and the trans from the bellhousing. Unbolted the bellhousing and jacked the front of the engine up to pivot the long 250 down enough to get the bellhousing out. Once all was clear I installed a dual pass linear style 24 inch cooler on the inner frame rail. Jacked the trans into place and took some measurements to cut the firewall up enough to clear. Bolted the trans to the engine and the rubber mount to the bottom and
then slid the universal cpp crossmember into place. I had to cut the ends to fit and flop the end mounts around, but it literary fell into place. Engine and trans sit at 2 degrees, rear end is at 3.

The AD trucks rear spring center pin sits roughly 1 inch forward of the rear housing. I did some dumb math last week and sketched out what I had and what I was shooting for then spent a couple days in the wrecking yard at lunch. Found that by moving the center pin directly centered over the rear axle I could use a 92 S10 blazer 4 door 4 wheel drive rear shaft with a conversion ujoint to 1310 for my rr end and have the perfect slip and avoid an expensive driveshaft with the 700r4. Total driveline and ujoint $59.

I had swapped a rr end from a 69 Chevy C10 2x with posi and 3:73 and it cruises 60 mph with what sounds like 1200 rpm. Ive been driving all over the county for the last 2 days and it seems to get great mpg (haven't calculated it yet) . I may switch the rr to 4:10 as we will be pulling the trailer a bunch with the burb this summer. I don't need
to be doing 90 on Coker wide whites with the 3:73s
