Marv, just thinking out loud here. But if you sold your troubled motor and your 383, we might be able to put together a solid LS motor for the truck that would prove to be reliable. You could even keep your carb if you wanted too
Could either start with an iron 6.0 block and crank (which I would have to source, but will open up inexpensive but good flowing head options) or I have a alum 5.7 block/crank here. I would love to help you build a motor for that truck. Only cost to you would be parts and my local machine shop fees which are very reasonable.
Give it some thought, you have my number. I'd love to see another 10 second NA LS truck on this site
