Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.
Spent friday working on the front center caps, i took out the cutting tool i got from harbor freight and cut them out. It worked pretty good, i put some glue between the metal and plastic inner so it would not rattle, since these are two layers. I finished removing the old cam, the only damage i found was the cam lobe and lifter. The new parts came in friday morning. I got the new cam installed and all buttoned up. I finally got it running today, i ran straight 30W with break in additive. The break in was terrible, i guessed on the timing to get it close and then i kept wanting to overheat. The stupid gm style plastic locking thing that goes in the water pump started leaking again. Guess they are one time use only. I had to shut down twice during the break in to cool and get more water in it, it had a big bubble that didnt want to come out. I also got a new rad cap as the one i had was not working too good. Once i got the run done i was able to idle it and top off the cooling system, get the timing back to 0 and change the oil. It is ready for the road again and some fine tuning.
