Re: trucks with tunnel rams

edelbrock TR1Y in my 57 with a 68 327 in it (ok, my 57 in 1983, that is... but still). Yes, it was sporting 70's yellow accel wires, Holley 600 vac secs, Muncie 4-speed, and what I thought was a really cool Mallory dual point

And, for what it's worth - I'll never do that again! Not exactly streetable. You'll hear plenty of folks say it is, but it depends on your definition of "streetable." Yes, I could drive it just fine on the street, but it was like cop fly paper, nil for gas mileage (not that you'd expect any anyway), and it is not designed for stop light to stop light. Well tuned, it ran a little better, but still was a pain on the street - those things are made for mid-high rpm, at the drag strip. If you do it, highly recommend smaller carbs like 390s or 600s (max).

Don't get me wrong, not trying to discourage your choice - I LOVE tunnel rams, but just be aware the pain that comes with them, that's all.

But having said all that - it was a real screamer when IN its rpm range...
