I could be wrong but I believe that the following wires are connected to the starter:
1: Positive battery cable + Main feed to the remaining electrical system in the truck. The small wire has a fusible link that will burn in case the rest of the system overloads.
This smaller wire feeds the 12V junktion points in engine compartment. I've got two on my firewall. If you check them, they carry 12V even if the key isn't in the ignition.
2: Solenoid wire, connects to the ignitin key control circuit and controls when the starter is active.
