Here's a diagram to help you see how the temp wire is routed.
When you get yours hooked up if it doesn't work then try using a conductive sealer on the threads instead of the teflon tape.
The wire end is a slide on to the sender not a ring terminal.

You can see the yellow wire on the starter and the green temp sender wire is to the left of the engine block.
