Re: 2002 5.7 timing issue
With the scan tool hooked up showing the cam retard reading, start the vehicle up. Don't set the distributor back a notch just rotate the housing in the proper direction to get closer to your desired timing just like you would with a regular distributor. when you think you are close tighten hold down and crack the throttle above 1000 rpm to get the ecm to update the cam retard reading. If you aren't to your 0* +/-2* adjust distributor housing like you did previously, and recheck. You have to crack the throttle above 1000 rpm each time an adjustment is made to get the ecm to update the reading. When correct reading is achieved clear the codes and perform a crank relearn as was described earlier.
