That's what caught my eye about the black/yellow plates, no date stamp?
The date stamp is in the well on the right,where the year sticker is placed.

I've heard that you aren't supposed to paint your plates. But I don't know the law on that. I'd like to think that if they looked like new, John Law would approve.

My truck originally had black and yellow commercial plates, but my FIL didn't want to pay the commercial fees, so he converted to "house car" registration and they are now blue with yellow characters. You can tow and so forth, but can't carry stuff in the bed, except for say, camping gear. I've gotten a load or two of wood in there, in the past anyway.

BOT- Your plate looks nice. I repainted my Skylark's front plate- cleaned up the rust and knocked out the dings. I used Krylon engine semi-gloss and mixed my own yellow, using bright yellow with red and black for tint. Topped with an enamel clear coat. Came out real nice.
