Although, I have subscribed by posting, I have thought as well about this swap. I think it would be nice to have a well shifting many tranny bolted up to my LS6. You can get the whole kit at TREMEC I believe. I have seen quite a few TREMEC T56s bolted up to BBC like ours in show/go cars and trucks. It is a bit pricey but the best...well is...the best.

Another option is a newer 5 or 6 speed auto that can be manually or electronically shifted. I like my auto though it is a bit rudimentary at this point but I am looking forward to a new auto 6-speed I can adapt a paddle type shifter to during those times when the ricers or otherwise HP newbies want to tangle.

Yes, they are electronically modulated but there are throttle adapters for any 4150 style carb or FI unit (FAST, Edelbrock, etc).

Eventually, I'll be going to TPI at the same time when I install the 6L transmission. Okay, a bit long, but look into what TREMEC has to offer here:
