I myself prefer the 4.8 to the 5.3 for daily driving. It is more forgiving to cruising rpm then the 5.3, and this is from my personal experience.

Most swappers are after hp, and not mpg. My current build plan is to use the 4200 Vortec, and see what is possible mpg wise. I am hoping for a mpg and cost vs buying a new car as my job situation gets back to normal along with my long commutes.
