They did constant revisions to the valve bodies and oil control and what not. The newer the better but after 87 I think they changed the amount of splines in the oil pump that made a big difference in realibility The othe revision came along I think a year or so later so I would say if you can get a 90 or 91 your in good shape, of course the older ones could be updated I assume but we all know what happens when we do that.One of the main thing is to get a good cooler and make sure the trans stays cool, it hates hot fluid come to think of it I do to.
