I ran into the sAme issue. My truck was a 68 with 71 spindle set up. So i ordered 71 drop spindles. Worked fine. Then when i bought parts to rebuild to my surprise they did not fit. Sounds to me like you have a earlyier center link that has smaller taper. I ended up with a custom adjuster from cpp 71 outers and i think (68 outers ran as inners) i dont remember caus its been so long but i know they are mixed matched cpp can hook you up!
