Just a question, having never done this on an older engine, will the continued cranking flood the carb? and is there a way to prevent that?

Leave the choke off and don't hit the gas peddle or throttle linkage. If she floods, she'll just crank over faster. A trick I use to start with a low battery. I've had the cylinders bypass due to failed head gaskets. The bottem end sounded good from what I could tell from the vid. If the compression tests bad, I guess pull the plug beside and see if air is swooshing back and fourth, you can tell. Then its pull the heads time, sorry.
