I saw an episode of Jay Leno's Garage about these. The engine actually runs the generator portion to supply power to the electric motor, if I remember correctly. The engine runs at a constand low rpm,so is very quiet and uses very little fuel.
Would be a cool deal to swap a '60-66 bodyon one of these chassis.
