One thing about PDL on our old trucks - you have to make sure the lock rod and associated mechanism is kink free and lubed up. The power actuators cannot overcome the resistance from any hang ups in the mechanical parts of the door lock. When you lift the lock button with your fingers you exert a lot more force than with a little electrical solenoid.

The kit I just got has a provision for just that sorta thing. I have mine set to automatically re-lock and rearm if the doors were not opened shortly after disarm. i know what you mean about having the actuators moving nice and free. still tweaking mine to work effortlessly.
